Welcome to 5th Grade!

Because researchers say 5th grade is a predictor of future academic interests, we endeavor to make all subjects and experiences lively and exciting. 5th graders learn by using inquiry, collaboration and investigation, and the arts help to make the curriculum developmentally engaging. Learning is always happening both in the classroom and on field trips.

Our Class

Welcome to Room 2!

5th grade is the most excellent school year ever!

Students are immersed in project-based learning. They learn to be effective

collaborators within and outside of the classroom.

Take a look at our pictures to get a sense of the possibilities!

Mastering Grade level Standards

Mastery of the prescribed standards will be achieved by our learning teams working together- the students, their families and the teaching staff.

Using suggested online programs, such as Moby Max, is a terrific way to work on building, maintaining, or moving beyond mastery. Students complete placement tests in specific subjects and the programs provide practice in the areas your child needs help in. Parents can easily access their child's progress.

Project-Based Learning
We endeavor to combine multiple subjects
into units of study.
Past Units include:

"Native American Project"

Rockdale's 5th graders determined how geography and climate impacted the lifestyle of various Native American Tribes through analysis of geographical, weather and climate maps. As part of the project, students created paper mache models of the Earth and salt dough relief maps of their assigned geographical regions.

Watershed Project

5th graders participate in a major learning opportunity that is directly related to our local community.  They learn about water quality; and then design and conduct their own investigation related to our specific community. In the past, they have designed water filtration systems and made plans to capture run-off water from rainfalls.

Colonial Days

This unit consists of an analysis of early American history. Students consider the culture and the resources of the time as they delve deeply into the lives that contributed to the American Revolution, which

established the foundation of our country.
