The Arts
At Rockdale VAPA Magnet each grade level has a different focus when it comes to the arts. In the past we have worked on ballroom dancing. In drama we have worked on a historical performances related to early America and the 13 colonies. With our visual arts teacher we have focused on creativity in various commercial forms such as hoodie and CD cover design with various mediums. One year we were inspired by the author Octavia Butler to create an art piece and some of our pieces were on display at the Huntington Library! The arts are used as a way to access the mandated state curriculum standards.

Dance
In the past, our 5th graders received ballroom dancing and hip hop instruction. We participate in the Los Angeles Blue Ribbon Festival at the Dorothy chandler Pavilion
Visual Arts
Last year and again this year, our class received instruction from Mr. Rodriguez, a District Arts Instructor.

Drama
The entire 5th grade receives weekly drama lessons for a full semester from the talented district arts teacher, Ms. Tanzman. They build on the theater skills they learned in previous years. In the past they have performed plays about the American Revolution and a German folktale. Last year the students created a fictitious historical character and performed a monologue.
